The Sense of Sound

The preschool students spent this week playing different instruments as part of their senses unit. Here are some photos of the students playing and listening to the sound of the different instruments.

Students took turns playing the different instruments while the other students had to try and guess which instrument was being played.

Great to see all of the smiling faces. Clearly the students were learning and having fun at the same time.

Tickle Touch

Today the preschool students worked on their sense of touch with a fun lesson called Tickle Touch. Some children removed their socks and shoes. They tickled each others feet, hands and arms and students had to predict which body part was the most ticklish. To further this lesson, the words of the day were tickle, touch, skin and sensation and fit in nicely with the thematic unit they are studying about their five senses.

The Snowman and Penguin Song

The preschoolers have been busy singing songs about winter as part of their thematic unit on snow. The above collage is of them singing and acting out the following song sang to the tune of I'm a Little Tea Pot. Below you will find the lyrics.

Two Fat snowmen

Met in a lane

Bowed down politely

And bowed down again.

How do you do

How do you do

And how do you do again.

I’m a little penguin

Black and white

Stout and Fluffy

What a sight

I can’t fly

But I like to swim

So I waddle to the water

And dive right in.

Our Senses Unit

As part of their sensory unit preschool and pre-k students worked with a coconut to reinforce what they have been learning. First they looked at the coconut which reinforced their sense of sight.

Then they passed the coconut around to feel it both inside and out which reinforced their sense of touch. Next, the classmates shook the coconut to hear the sound of the milk inside which reinforced their sense of hearing.

Then Ms. Nadine cracked the shell open and the students were able to smell the coconut which reinforced their sense of smell.

Lastly, each student was able to eat a slice of the coconut that reinforced their sense of taste. What a great hands on lesson to teach students about their senses.

The Preschool Group

The preschool have been working on learning the five senses. Here is a photo collage of them during their lesson learning about their sense of touch. The preschoolers played a game where they had to feel different objects in a bag and guess what they were. They had so much fun feeling and guessing what was in the bag. Then they tried it with rubber gloves on. They had to describe what it felt like. Is it easier or harder to feel the different items with the glove on? Try it out at home and let us know what you think.

The students have been busy working on their unit entitled The Five Senses. They are learning the importance of our sense of smell, sense of touch, sense of sight, sense of taste, and sense of hearing. In order to learn these, they created a song to remember them. It was sung to the tune of Thumbkin. Here are the lyrics:

Five senses, five sense

We have them, we have them,

Seeing, hearing, touching

Smelling and tasting

We have five, we have five
