Beehive School Has a Fence
Saturday, April 24th, the fence went up at the school. We would like to extend a big thank you to all that came out and volunteered their time, effort, and hard work. Without you, this would've been impossible. Now we can rest assured knowing our children are playing outside in a secured area.

Play Group Hard at Work
In playgroup, we have continued our Spring Unit focusing on the life cycle of a dandelion as well as creating our April flowers. The pictures above show the students working on the life cycle of a dandelion as well as free structured play where students played image bingo where they had to match the image on their card with the images piled in the middle. Students also worked on learning their colors and shapes and threading these on a string to create a catepillar. Great work playgroup.
Horton Award
The book Horton Hears a Who came out in 1954 by Doctor Seuss. The book tells a tale of an elephant who hears something on a speck of dust, and believes that he must keep the tiny speck safe at all costs. It is discovered that the little speck happens to be a little planet, which Horton ends up saving and the motto of the mayor is "a person's a person no matter how small."
I have chosen to call the name of this award the Horton Award because it is the little things that a person does throughout the day that can really make a difference. Today's certificate was awarded to Christopher for his leadership, participation, and teamwork. Great job Christopher! Your efforts do not go unnoticed!

Structured Play Time
The playgroup spent time playing games as part of their structured free time. We played one game where they had to catch as many marbles that they could in the mouth of the squirrel. During this time, students were asked to count how many marbles they had and what color they were. It always showed them cause and effect.
The other structured game was a fishing game and students had to see how many fish they could catch on their magnetic fish pole. The students played very well together. This was a good exercise not only in academic learning, but social skills (learning to take turns). Great job playgroup.
Playgroup Arts and Crafts
This week e are focusing on Spring and learning about how flowers grow, learning how to classify flowers in size from small to big, and the life cycle of a dandelion. To further their study, students made their own flowers out of cupcake paper, pom poms, and pipe cleaners. They also are making beautiful canvas bags with their hand prints as flowers which will be hanging on their hooks to put their extra clothes. Nice work playgroup!

Preschool Spring Art
Students in preschool created these beautiful flowers by using a sliced potato and dipping it in paint to make the petals. I think they turned out lovely.

Spring is finally here and the students are really enjoying time outside and on our playground. Here are some candid photos of them hard at play.

Linus's Show and Tell

Easter Water Color Art
In the Friday combined class, playgroup and preschool created watercolor Easter pictures. Great job students!
Easter Egg Crafts
Last week, students worked hard on all of their Easter crafts. In particular, they made these wonderful Easter eggs out of tissue paper. They first had pieces of tissue paper, they rolled them up, and then stuck them on a pre-cut pattern. They turned out quite lovely.
Spring has Sprung
At the Beehive School, students in all grade levels have just started their Spring Unit looking specifically at flowers. Here are some flowers painted by the preschool class.
